Overview

The HD Freedom 250 is a mid-range in-the-ear digital hearing aid that offers excellent sound quality and a range of impressive technical features encased in a user-friendly design. It’s small, incredibly discreet, and comfortable to wear. The HD Freedom 250 Hearing Aid is a more sophisticated in-the-ear hearing aid model than the HD Freedom 230, with many excellent technical features to help boost your listening experience.

HD Freedom 250 review from Bev Carter: Hearing Direct audiologist

The HD Freedom 250 is a great little hearing aid to work with. Perfect for mild to moderate hearing losses; although its fitting range also allows us to fit it to more moderate-severe hearing losses too. With a few hundred fittings of these under my belt, I feel confident in its performance, and love seeing our customers benefit from improved hearing.

Key Features

Looks

The HD250 is an instant-fit device, developed to sit snugly within the average adult sized ear canal. If however, you experience discomfort or unwanted feedback, it comes supplied with 3 different silicone fitting tips (or domes) for an improved fit.

The body (shell) of the HD250 is beige coloured. Right sided HD250s have red printing on the shell. Left sided HD250s have blue printing.

A thin, short pull cord attached to the outer side of the hearing aid makes removing the HD250 a simple task.

Sounds

The HD250 is a mid-range digital hearing aid that offers excellent sound quality. Suitable for those with a mild to moderate hearing loss, the HD250 analyses incoming sound in 12 frequency areas (bands) to reproduce a clear, amplified result.

Tri-layered noise reduction and dynamic speech enhancement algorithms are constantly active, producing as comfortable a listening experience as possible. An advanced feedback management system also works to reduce the likelihood of any unwanted whistling.

If you have sent us your audiogram in advance, the HD250 will be programmed with 4 volume settings based on your hearing loss profile.

  • Setting 1 is set 2dB softer than the software’s recommendation for the audiogram to give a softer option on startup.
  • Setting 2 is as per audiogram recommendation.
  • Setting 3 is 2-3dB louder than setting 2.
  • Setting 4 is 2-3dB louder than setting 3.

If you do not have an audiogram; our standard setting, suitable for a mild to moderate, high-frequency hearing loss is used to create the 4 settings. High tones are boosted up more than lower bass tones.

How to buy

Not sure about buying a hearing aid online? We keep the process straight-forward, and here's what happens:

Select which ear you wish to wear the hearing aid on (left / right / both) and add to basket. Check-out and purchase with Visa / Mastercard or PayPal. Your order will be sent directly to you via courier from our UK warehouse for a 30 day home trial. Everything you need to try the aid for this period is included.

Many customers have a copy of their audiogram (hearing test result on a graph) and will email us a copy before ordering - audiology@hearingdirect.com.

If the hearing aid is appropriate for the hearing loss, we use the audiogram results to program the initial settings of the hearing aid.

Dont worry if an audiogram is not available; you can begin with our standard setting – geared to suit a mild to moderate, mainly high frequency hearing loss. This is the type of hearing loss we commonly see in those with age-related or noise-induced hearing losses.

Another option is to complete the online hearing check, which, if completed as instructed, gives a reasonable estimate of someone’s middle and high frequency hearing: https://www.hearingdirect.com/pages/hearing-test

If you wish for your online hearing check result to be used with your order you will need to let us know before or just after your order is placed.

Please talk to us if you need anything else regarding the set up further customised. We are real people, and would love to help provide the best possible starting point for you.

Once you've received the hearing aid it's a case of trying out the physical fit and the sound. If you need any adjustments, we can arrange for a reprogrammed unit to be sent in exchange, provided the original is first returned to our US returns facility within the first 30 days.

If the sound or physical fit of the product is not to your satisfaction, our 30 day money back guarantee is a no quibble policy.

12 month Hearing Aid Warranty

The warranty covers manufacturing and material defects in the hearing aid itself. Upon inspection Hearing Direct will either repair or exchange the hearing aid with a new or refurbished like for like unit at their sole discretion.

Warranty Limitation

This warranty does not cover damage from improper handling or care, exposure to chemicals or undue stress. Damage caused by third parties or non-authorized service centre’s renders the warranty null and void.

Out of Warranty Hearing Aid Repair

(Please note this will only cover mechanical failure of the device for up to 4 years from the original purchase date)

FAQs

How do I use the HD250?

How do I know if it will fit my ear?

The manufacturer of the HD250 took a large sample of men and women's ear canals into account to try to find the best average fitting, suitable for as many people as possible. We cant give a guaranteed 100% fit result for all ear canals, but that's why our 30 day return period allows for a trial in your own ear, in the comfort of your own home.

What if it doesn't work for me?

If anything about the physical fitting or sound is not to your liking, you can return the HD250 for a full refund within the first 30 days of receipt. Please do contact us to see if another product may be better suited, and a further 30 day trial with another product can be arranged.

Should I get one or two?

If an evaluation by a hearing professional indicates that you have hearing loss in both ears, and especially where the degree of loss is similar, two hearing aids are usually recommended.

While it may be tempting to try to limit the cost by going with a single hearing aid, wearing just one hearing aid may not give you maximum benefit in some difficult listening situations.

How do I know if the sound will be right for me?

If you have a copy of a hearing test available you can send it to us and we can confirm if the HD250 can cover your hearing loss. If you order without providing a hearing test result, you will be trying out its standard settings, which cater for mild to moderate, mainly high frequency hearing loss. Free fine tuning is also available for the life of the product if needed.

How much will it cost to run the HD250?

The following items will need to be replaced on the HD250:

  • Battery: budget 6 batteries per month (6 batteries in a pack)
  • Dome: if you choose to use a dome it will need changing every 2-3 months on average
  • Wax guard: varies greatly person to person - average change once every 3 weeks (8 Wax guards in a pack)
How do I turn the HD250 on/off?

No on/off switch, just insert battery, close / open battery door

How do I change the volume?

Use the small push button next to the battery door. The HD250 always starts up in setting 1 - the softest volume. Press the button down once to change to setting 2. (You will hear 2 beeps). Press again once for setting 3, and once again for setting 4 - the loudest option. To have this further adjusted, we can do a free fine tuning for you.

How do I clean the hearing aid?
