Review by Beverly Carter - Hearing Direct audiologist

This is a welcome addition to our in-the-ear portfolio. The HD395 uses the tried and tested design of our very popular HD250, but the internal sound processing takes things to the next level. I'm often asked about the differences between the HD250 and HD395, seeing as they do look identical! The noise reduction, sound enhancement and feedback management algorithms are activated at 'premium' levels as opposed to 'standard' in the HD250. Incoming sound is being analysed in a greater number of frequency bands; the end result being improved listening clarity and less risk of feedback getting in the way.

Features

The HD395 is our top of the range digital in-the-ear hearing aid that offers excellent sound quality. Although our standard setting is best suited for those with a mild to moderate hearing loss, the HD395 has an enhanced fitting range to also cater for more moderate-severe hearing loss.

Premium noise reduction, dynamic speech enhancement and anti-feedback management algorithms are constantly active, producing as comfortable a listening experience as possible.

If you have sent us your audiogram in advance, the HD395 will be programmed using your audiogram to create the starting point amplification profile. Adjustments for volume and different listening situations can then be made by using the push button. If you do not have an audiogram; our standard setting, suitable for a mild to moderate, high-frequency hearing loss is used to create the amplification profile. High tones are boosted up more than lower bass tones.

The HD395 push button is a multi-function button.

A short press will change volume. Each short press increases volume slightly. Maximum volume reach when you hear 3 beeps. The next short press takes you back to the softest volume.

A long press (hold for 2 seconds) will change program.

There are 4 programs available.

Program 1 is for listening to speech in quieter or 1-1 environments.

Program 2 has maximum noise reduction

Program 3 is for music

Program 4 is best for telephone use.

After each long press, the number of beeps that you hear corresponds to the program now active.

A save function will retain the last push button setting to restart automatically in this position if the aid has been in one setting for at least 30 minutes prior to being turned off.

The HD395 is an instant-fit device, developed to sit snugly within the average adult sized ear canal. If however, you experience discomfort or unwanted feedback, it comes supplied with 3 different soft silicon fitting tips (or domes) for an improved fit. A medium size tip will be fitted to the HD395 when it arrives.

The body (shell) of the HD395 is beige coloured. Right sided HD395s have red printing on the shell. Left sided HD395s have blue printing.

A thin, short pull cord attached to the outer side of the hearing aid makes removing the HD395 a simple task.

FAQs

Here's answers to the frequently asked questions about the HD395 Digital Hearing Aid
How do I know if it will fit my ear?

Our US manufacturer of the HD395 took a large sample of men and women's ear canals into account to try to find the best average fitting, suitable for as many people as possible. We cant give a guaranteed 100% fit result for all ear canals, but that's why our 30 day return period allows for a trial in your own ear, in the comfort of your own home.

What if it doesn't work for me?

If anything about the physical fitting or sound is not to your liking, you can return the HD250 for a full refund within the first 30 days of receipt. Please do contact us to see if another product may be better suited, and a further 30 day trial with another product can be arranged.

Should I get one or two?

If an evaluation by a hearing professional indicates that you have hearing loss in both ears, and especially where the degree of loss is similar, two hearing aids are usually recommended.

While it may be tempting to try to limit the cost by going with a single hearing aid, wearing just one hearing aid may not give you maximum benefit in some difficult listening situations.

How will you know how to set it for my hearing?

If you have a copy of an audiogram (hearing test result) - please email this to audiology@hearingdirect.com before or at the time of purchase along with your order number.

If you dont have an audiogram, and do not discuss your hearing with us before hand, you are welcome to try the default settings - which are especially geared to suit a mild to moderate, age-related hearing loss. More amplfication is given to high pitched sounds than bass pitched sounds.

You can also take our online hearing check as a guideline - if you do, please make sure you email audiology@hearingdirect.com to let us know this has been done. https://us.hearingdirect.com/pages/hearing-test

How much will it cost to run the HD395?

The following items will need to be replaced on the HD395:

  • Battery: budget 6 batteries per month (6 batteries in a pack), look out for our great deals on bulk packs
  • Dome: if you choose to use a dome it will need changing every 2-3 months on average (Medium dome pack of 5)
  • Wax guard: varies greatly person to person - average change once every 4 weeks (8 Wax guards in a pack)
